I spent 30 years at the Boston Herald, 21 of those co-writing the newspaper’s popular celebrity news column, the Inside Track.
Now that I have turned the page on my career, I am pursing my passions for cooking and baking. I am ready for new challenges armed with knowledge from various boot camps and classes at the Culinary Institute of America and the Baking Education Center at King Arthur Flour as well as some catering gigs.
I also know about cooking humiliation. I washed out of the second season of “Master Chef” in 30 seconds. I still contend it had nothing to do with the food which was delicious. It was all about cranky chef Gordon Ramsay‘s hatred for British tabloid gossip columnists. That’s my story anyway…
In June, I will begin a three-month, 20-hours-a-week apprenticeship at Flour Bakery + Cafe on Farnsworth Street in Boston. While I will be doing scut work, I am eager to learn production on a large scale and, once again, feel like I am part of a team turning out something fabulous. And who knows? Maybe I will put together a team of my own in the coming years!
I am also training to become a tour guide for the Boston Foodie Tours. So if you have foodie friends coming to Boston, please send them our way!
In the meantime, my husband, Steven, and my large family will continue to be my recipe testers and kitchen crew. The Foodsmith is a lucky gal!
